The First Annual HBCU ART HAUS Prize - $2,000 Prize Package
David Driskell. Elizabeth Catlett. Ernie Barnes. John Biggers. Bisa Butler. Earlie Hudnall Jr. Artists who have shaped and continue to shape the American artistic canon.
That lineage is alive and producing right now. Across 103 accredited HBCUs, over 1,000 visual and performing arts degrees are awarded every single year. Our talent has never been the problem.
HBCU-trained artists are producing serious, collectible work. HBCU alumni collectors have the means and the desire to buy it. That transaction happens far less than it should because there has never been a dedicated place for it to happen. The NEA identified just 16 partnerships connecting HBCU artists to the outside market across all 103 institutions. 16. HBCU Art Haus is here to fill that gap.
HBCU Art Haus is that place. A curated, nomadic marketplace built by an HBCU artist, for HBCU artists. Geographically agnostic by design, dedicated exclusively to the work of HBCU-trained artists, and accessible to collectors anywhere in the world. Funded by demand, not donation.
The First Annual HBCU Art Haus Art Prize is the pipeline connecting our collector base to our community.
Prize Winner receives a total package valued at $2,000:
- $1,000 cash award
- Official press release distributed to art world and HBCU media
